What makes up a CMM probe system?

A complete probe system has three layers: the head sets the approach angle, the probe body sets how points are captured, and the stylus and fixturing set what is physically reachable. A mismatch in any one of them prevents the machine from delivering the accuracy it is rated for.

Controllers and operating accessories

How to select, and what to confirm first

Work backwards from the feature. Establish the smallest bore and the deepest feature first — those fix stylus length and diameter. Then let the number of feature orientations decide whether a motorised head is justified. Compare probe repeatability figures last, not first.
